PET CT in Current Oncology Practice – 9th Annual Lecture by Dr. R. V. Parmeswaran

The Goa Cancer Society hosted its 9th Annual Lecture on 26 April 2025 at the Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, continuing its commitment to advancing cancer awareness and education in Goa. The event brought together members of the medical fraternity, corporate leaders, and concerned citizens for an enlightening session on one of the most significant developments in oncology today.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. R. V. Parmeswaran, Chief of Nuclear Medicine & PET CT at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, and a PET CT Fellow from the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Speaking on the topic “PET CT in Current Oncology Practice”, Dr. Parmeswaran highlighted how PET CT has revolutionized cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. He explained how this advanced imaging technique aids in detecting disease, evaluating treatment response, and improving overall outcomes—often leading to a change in clinical decisions in over 50% of cases.

The lecture was followed by a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on “Nuclear Medicine & PET CT”, accredited by the Goa Medical Council. Held at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Manipal Hospital, the session offered doctors a deeper understanding of how functional imaging is transforming oncology.

The Society gratefully acknowledges the presence and support of healthcare professionals, dignitaries, and guests who attended the event. Special thanks are due to the leadership of the Goa Cancer Society, under whose guidance the annual lecture continues to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and public engagement on critical cancer care topics.
