Prof. Angshuman Sarkar and his team from BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, has shown the potential of an antimalarial drug that was discovered for close to a century, as an anti-cancer agent. Their work has shown the effectiveness of this molecule on death of human lung and breast cancer cells. They have published few papers in a world-renowned journal in ‘Cancer Biology’ and ‘Pharmacology’. The newspaper reports (Times of India and Navhind Times) on his discovery have also highlighted the effectiveness of re-purposing of the antimalarial molecule on human lung and breast cancer. His work acknowledged the financial support from the ‘Goa Cancer Society’ for his ongoing project in the same topic.
